I was really looking forward to reading this - I ought to know better than to believe the hype by now. Despite the prizes, despite the praise, the story was contrived and predictable, the characters two-dimensional, the writing stilted and cliched. What's worse is that I bought a copy for Bex's birthday - sorry! - but as I seem to be a lone critical voice, maybe (to repeat my common mantra) I'm missing something.

  1. Actually, I didn't think much of it either. I didn't wish to express myself too harshly on the blog as it was a present! I don't very often read "normal" books. But clearly this wasn't so much normal as just bad!
